What is this?

This is the Philly venue for HTML Day, a worldwide HTML freewrite, and celebration.

Come to write HTML, learn HTML, talk HTML, think HTML, make HTML friends, etc

Venue & Event Details:

Public Transport:

47 northbound and southbound bus stops half a block away on 7th & 8th, ~8 minute walk from 64 and 40 bus stops.

~20 minute walk from both 8th St L stop and Lombard-South BSL stop.

Parking:

Parallel street parking available, and it shouldn't be too too hard to find a spot around that time.

Entrances:

Entrance is on Catharine, closer to 8th. Sidewalk is a little bumpy getting there. The park is elevated, and can be accessed by 2 short steps, or a ramp on the eastern corner which has handrails on both sides.

Floor surface:

Brick and stone pavers, slightly bumpy but relatively even. No grass!

Bathrooms:

The Fleisher Art Memorial's entrance is just a few feet away, and has two accessible gender-neutral restrooms available to the public. Restrooms are accessible by a small set of stairs or a small lift that requires knocking for a key from the desk.

Fleisher will be closed during this event! Closest accessible bathrooms are at Charles Santore Library and Rally Coffee (both about 2 blocks away)

Seating:

The park has two metal picnic tables I'll try to reserve beforehand, one with two wheelchair-accessible seats. There are also many benches. All seating is slatted, including tabletops.

Lighting:

Lots of trees and plants, park is quite shady in the afternoon.

Participation:

Informal, come as you are, no centralized activity just talk about whatever you want with whoever you want! I (Yone) only speak english and HTML, and cannot personally bring any kind of interpreter.

Food:

Bring whatever snacks you'd like (unless it's raining and we're in the library). Please be aware and communicative of allergens. Definitely bring water—there is also a water bottle refilling station in Fleisher the library has water, and there is a convenience store even closer. There is also a lot of tasty food in the vicinity, including John's Water Ice around the corner which is a nice treat for anybody.

Childcare:

Kids are so welcome! Personally, I teach first grade and love talking to kids of all ages about websites! This park doesn't have a playground of any kind, and might be kind of bland for kids unless they like looking at plants and interacting with very bold squirrels & birds. Expect to see lots of people eating water ice.

Bugs:

I am sitting in the park right now and there is a non-insignificant number of mosquitoes. I can bring bug spray that anyone can use. There are also friendly ants and I just saw a dragonfly.

General assistance:

Let me know if you need any help of any kind, I am happy to provide direction and assistance getting into the park, but cannot transport anyone there (contact info in next section, email me ahead of time if you want my phone number)

Wifi:

No wifi but... maybe. Don't depend on it.

Electricity:

No outlets, so bring a charged laptop :-).
